Table Centerpiece Crafts

Table Centerpiece Crafts

Centerpiece crafts can create a variety of distinguished looks for your table. From country charm to elite sophistication, a centerpiece can define a mood and set a tone for an event or a meal. Learn to make a variety of centerpiece crafts and dress your table for any event imaginable. You will likely find that many of the items needed are already available in your own home. Does this Spark an idea?

Simple, Last Minute

If you get that infamous last minute phone call alerting you to visiting friends or family members who are coming to dinner, create an impromptu centerpiece with items you will likely already have on hand.

Cord a few red or green apples, and hollow out the centers so they are wide enough to house a small votive or tea light candle. Arrange the apples on a tray or mirror. Before lighting the candles, sprinkle a little bit of cinnamon into the core. The warmth from the lighted candles will transfer the warm scent of cinnamon and apples throughout your home, in addition to serving as a beautiful centerpiece. You may substitute pears or oranges for apples, if need be.

Nature

Use simple elements found in nature to create a beautiful centerpiece. Arrange pine cones on a tall green Styrofoam cone, and fasten them with floral wire. Spray paint the pine cones and Styrofoam cones any color you choose. Many people opt for white, silver or gold for basic hues that blend with almost any other color. If you prefer leaving your pine cones in their natural state, simply spray on a clear coat of polyurethane finish for added shine and to prevent the pine cones from crumbling.

Fill a large glass bowl with an assortment of seashells and sea glass. Use hot glue to affix random nautical embellishments on the outside of the bowl. Captain's wheels, anchors and fish are easy to find at your local craft store, and will give the centerpiece an added summery feel.

Flowers

Flowers are still the most commonly used element in creating table centerpiece crafts. Whether real or artificial, they lend a certain elegance to any arrangement and are simple to work with. Purchase a few blocks of florist's foam at your local craft supply or floral supply store. Cut the foam to fit whatever vessel you've chosen in which to arrange your centerpiece. Use scotch tape or thin strapping tape and create a grid pattern over the top of the chosen vessel. This will help floral stems to stay upright once they've been inserted into the foam.

Purchase small trinkets at your local craft or dollar store in a theme you've chosen for your centerpiece. Wrap floral wire around a portion of each trinket (for example, use small Christmas balls for a Christmas centerpiece) and wrap the other end of the wire onto small wooden florists sticks (available at florist supply stores, or your local florist may sell you enough for your craft).

Insert flower stems into the foam and intersperse with the sticks holding the trinkets. Finish off the table centerpiece craft by using hot glue to attach a ribbon in a color that complements both the flowers and the trinkets.

Water the foam thoroughly, and add new water every day. If your house is especially dry, try to add water every 12 hours.
