How to Make a Craft Desk

How to Make a Craft Desk

Many crafters dream of having a dedicated room for their hobby, while others would settle for not having to use the dining room table for their projects. Making a craft table not only helps with the work space issue, but can provide you with extra storage and organization for your materials, so you spend less time finding things and more time making them. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Wipe two bookcases with a mixture of dishwashing detergent and water and a sponge to remove old dirt and grease. Remove the soap with the same damp sponge and clear water. Use bookcases of the same height, although they do not have to have the same number of shelves.

    2

Sand the cases to create a rough surface to which paint can adhere. If you are using contact paper instead of paint, skip this step. Wipe away the sawdust with a tack cloth.

    3

Paint the bookcases and the door. Allow the paint to dry and apply a second coat, if the old surface still shows through. If you prefer, cover them all with decorative contact paper instead.

    4

Decorate the bookcases with stencils and more paint if desired. Alternatively, decoupage paper or fabric cutouts or rubber-stamp the surfaces to add extra decorative elements.

    5

Brush a coat of marine varnish on the cases and door. This will protect the surfaces from spills and normal wear on your desk.

    6

Apply double-sided carpet tape to the top of the bookcases and affix the door to the taped cases, aligning them with the ends of the door.

    7

Place crafting supplies in fabric drawers or plastic bins and store them on the shelves.
