Centerpiece Crafts for Kids

Centerpiece Crafts for Kids

Centerpiece crafts are a great project for kids to decorate their birthday party dinner or buffet tables. Using leftover decor items, such as streamers and balloons, children can craft centerpieces to coordinate with party themes. Centerpiece crafts also make ideal table decor for Halloween bashes and other kid-friendly gatherings.

Tissue Paper Flowers

Kids can make simple tissue paper flowers for any occasion. Help your child cut three sheets of colorful tissue paper into heart shapes. Poke a green pipe cleaner through the bottom of the heart shapes and fan them out to resemble flower petals. Bend the top of the pipe cleaner to prevent the paper from slipping off. Make several flowers to create a bouquet. Allow kids to decorate a glass or plastic vase by tying a piece of ribbon around the top of it. Choose a ribbon color according to the theme of a birthday party or a specific holiday. Kids will enjoy displaying their handmade flowers in the vase.

Beach in a Bowl

If you are planning a beach-themed birthday party, help your child design a coordinating centerpiece. Fill a clear glass fish bowl with sand and a variety of seashells. Create a seascape using small pieces of driftwood, sea glass and rocks. Include a mini lighthouse, a boat, or any other beach-themed item you have on hand.

Autumn-inspired Centerpiece

Kids will take pleasure in gathering the items needed to create an autumn centerpiece for a Thanksgiving table. Go on a nature walk and encourage your child pick up a variety of colorful fall leaves, nuts and small pine cones. Faux fall leaves can replace real ones, if needed. Use glue to attach the natural items to the end of wooden craft sticks. Place a piece of florist foam into a clay pot so that kids can insert the decorated sticks into it. Help your child arrange the sticks into a decorative bouquet. Finish the centerpiece by tying a large orange, yellow or deep red ribbon around the pot and securing it with a bow.

Halloween Pumpkin Centerpiece

Help your child create a festive pumpkin centerpiece for a Halloween bash. Clean out the inside of a large, round pumpkin. Use craft paint to create a nose and eyes on the front of the pumpkin. Use a drill with a narrow bit to make several holes into the pumpkin, and a knife to carve a mouth design. Insert lollipops and pixie sticks into the holes, and place gummy worms into the mouth.
