Sand the end table with an electric sander to remove the existing finish. Look for any bumps or irregularities in the surface. Sand these down with a coarse grain sandpaper.

Sand the table's legs by hand. Be sure to get into all crevices or grooves of the table. The preparation phase is crucial to refinishing wood furniture. The new finish will not adhere to the wood if there is any remaining finish left on the table.

Go over the entire table with a medium-fine sandpaper to give it a smooth finish.
