How to Make a Project Table

Undertaking projects of any size demands a work space that is clean, spacious and flat. Be it a simple, small craft composition or a full scale, three-dimensional, large model project, creating a suitable project table that suits the versatility of your needs requires thoughtfulness and accuracy to ensure the best space for optimal use. Designing and creating a project table will take some initial planning, but will provide you an ideal atmosphere to complete your projects.

Instructions

    1

Measure the square footage of the space you're delegating as your project area. Leave room for space around a project table, then figure the size of your table based on your needs for supply and tool storage.

    2

Assemble two to four cheap, generic kitchen cabinets from your local home improvement store, using a screwdriver and the screws and brackets provided with the cabinets as directed. These will be used as the base supports of your projects table.

    3

Measure the approximate dimensions of your project table onto medium density fiberboard to make the top of the craft table.

    4

Add a plastic laminate surface to the top of the fiberboard. This will make the surface very easy to clean. Cut the laminate around the corners of the table to make all corners and edges flush.

    5

Glue thin strips of wood to the underside of the table top, along the edges. This prevents sagging by stiffening the top surface of the table. Attach a piece of wood trim around the sides, placed on the table's edge, to finish the table.

    6

Turn the table top over and add wood glue to the reinforcement strips. Gently press the reinforcement strips back and forth to equally distribute the glue. Nail the strips to the table with a nail gun after the glue is dry to secure the support pieces.

    7

Place the project table on top of the cabinet base supports, then screw the table top into the cabinets to secure the table. Move the project table to the place you selected and measured.
