Craft Desk Ideas

Craft Desk Ideas

If you craft, ideally you have a room set aside for your hobby, and you need a craft desk that functions for your specific craft. Since the desk is the focal point of a craft room, make it not only functional but stylish as well. For crafts such as painting and sewing, you need uncluttered free space, and with other crafts you need cubbies or shelves for organization. Deciding what you need is the first step before purchasing or making your craft desk.

Desk With Lots of Shelves

You don't have to purchase a craft desk. If you have minimal floor space, take your desk "up the wall." Hang an adjustable shelving system on the wall from floor to ceiling. Install your shelves at the depth requirements necessary for your particular craft with the the lowest shelf at desk height. Sit in your craft chair to test the most comfortable work height. Hang other shelves at 1-foot increments or more up the wall. If you need more or less space, adjust the shelving system.

Door Desk

Since modern desks feature minimal lines and clean composition, make a desk out of an old door to achieve that look with a small amount of money. Use an old door that you already have or purchase a salvaged door cheaply at a junk or home improvement store, and find table legs in a style you like. Add storage by hanging shelves or putting craft buckets under the table. Paint it and screw the legs onto the door according to manufacturer instructions.

End Table Desk

If you have unused side tables or end tables, utilize them for your craft desk. Purchase a piece of smooth plywood from a home improvement store and place it on matching side tables. Paint all the pieces the same color, or coordinate hues. You have premade storage under the desk in the side table drawers and shelves, plus you create a large work surface.
