How to Decorate a Girls Dress Craft Table

Create a playful and imaginative space for your little girl by including a craft table in her bedroom or playroom. Make the most of the table by combining features of a girls' dress table or vanity with her craft table. Smart design will allow this table to grow with her, from pretending to be a princess to making her prom dress. Hidden storage will keep her room neat and tidy, whether it is storing toys, craft supplies or cosmetics.

Instructions

    1

Choose a small table or desk you already have, or build a simple table. Opt for a table height that seats a teen or adult comfortably to allow your girls dress table to grow with your daughter.

    2

Sand the surfaces of your craft table. Wipe away excess dust. Paint it a color to match your daughter's room or playroom. Apply two coats of polyurethane for an easy-to-clean finish.

    3

Measure the desk or craft table from the floor to the edge of the table top. Add 4 inches to this measurement. Wrap a tape measure around three sides of the table or desk and double or triple this measurement. Cut your fabric to these measurements.

    4

Fold under a doubled 1-inch hem on all four sides of the fabric to make a vanity skirt. Stitch the hems into place.

    5

Set your sewing machine to the longest stitch length. Stitch along the long side of the fabric 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch from the edge. Pull the bobbin threads to gather the fabric to fit the table. Arrange the gathers of your vanity table skirt evenly.

    6

Sew hook-and-loop tape onto the dress table skirt along the top, gathered edge.

    7

Secure stick-on hook-and-loop tape to the edge of the craft table on three sides.

    8

Hang a mirror on the wall. Add a lamp, if desired. Use small baskets or plastic drawers to hold dress-up supplies or craft items. Tuck additional storage away under the desk or craft table.
