The Best Things to Put on the Bottom of a Kitchen Chair With a Wood Floor

The Best Things to Put on the Bottom of a Kitchen Chair With a Wood Floor

Wood kitchen floors can give your kitchen a country feel with their natural texture and colors. They can be an expensive but beautiful way to decorate your kitchen, often the most used room in your house. Furniture such as kitchen chairs that slide across the wood floor can put nasty scratches and gouges in the floor. Cover the bottoms of your kitchen chair legs to protect your wood floors. Does this Spark an idea?

Felt Pads

Place felt furniture pads on the bottoms of your kitchen chair legs to prevent scratches in your wood floor. These felt pads come with self-sticking adhesive. Just peel the wax paper backing off of the felt pads, and stick them on the bottom of the chair legs. You can also use tap-on felt pads that have tacks in them. Place the felt on the bottom of the chair leg, and tap it in place with a hammer. Or make your own pads by cutting felt circles the same size as your chair leg bottoms, and glue them on with wood glue. These felt pads not only protect the floor, but make it easier to move the kitchen chair.

Clear Sleeves

A clear sleeve is a variation on felt furniture pads. It is a clear tube whose bottom is covered with a piece of felt. The kitchen chair leg is placed into the sleeve, and the felt bottom prevents scratches on your wood floor. The felt adheres tightly to the plastic and will not peel off.

Gripper Pads

Gripper pads are made from rubber, silicon or soft plastic that will not scratch wood floors. They are pulled into place over the kitchen chair leg bottoms. Some come with self-adhesive on the inside, while others are form-fitted to a specific size chair leg so they will not fall off.

Furniture Glides

Furniture glides also come in a variety of materials including rubber and plastic. The cup that holds the chair leg is somewhat more shallow than those on gripper pads. These gliders can have self-adhesive or tacks built into them to keep the floor protector in place.

Cork Pads

You can also glue cork pads to the bottom of your kitchen chair legs to protect your wood kitchen floor. Ensure that the cork is sealed, or cover the cork pads with glue before you glue them to the bottom of the kitchen chair legs to prevent the cork from breaking down.
