How to Make a Sewing Table With a Drop Down Sewing Surface

A sewing table with a drop down sewing surface is also known as a drop leaf sewing table. There is one side of the table that is made to drop away. This drop down side is tucked neatly away until it is needed, and then it is pulled up on its hinges. This extends the length of the sewing table when needed without taking up added space in the home. This type of table can also be used for cutting fabric.

Instructions

    1

Place both 4-by-4 plywood sheets side by side. Connect the two sheets on one side using two drop leaf hinges.

    2

Screw in both drop leaf hinges. The result is two plywood sheets that are now connected with two drop leaf hinges.

    3

Flip the connected plywood sheets over. Under the table top side, place the four plywood legs, one under each corner.

    4

Nail the four legs to the four corners of the table top and extend the drop down surface.

    5

Cut two 4-by-4 inch squares of butcher paper. Use the staple gun to staple one square onto the table top and the second square onto the drop down top.

    6

Place sewing machine on the table top. The sewing table with drop down surface is now ready to use.
