How to Sew a Diaper Changing Pad

The sewing skills for this diaper-changing pad are minimal, and the supplies are few. The completed project fits smoothly into a diaper bag and can easily be machine washed. Sew one up in less than an hour using scraps from your fabric stash or special themed fabrics to match your nursery decor. Easily keep your diaper bag tidy with the Velcro closure, which keeps the pad folded and within reach when needed.

Instructions

    1

Cut the quilted fabric and the baby-print fabric to 14 inches by 26 inches.

    2

Round one corner. Fold horizontally and vertically, matching and cutting the rest of the corners.

    3

Layer the quilted fabric and the baby-print fabric with wrong sides together. Baste the edges together.

    4

Unfold the bias binding. Pin one long side around the edge of the diaper-changing pad on the baby-print fabric side. Fold the ends over and overlap where they meet.

    5

Sew the bias binding to the diaper-changing pad in the crease of the binding fold.

    6

Fold the bias binding to the quilted side of the diaper-changing pad and pin over the stitched line.

    7

Sew the binding in place with the sewing machine. If you prefer the stitches not to show, hand-stitch the binding into place.

    8

Pull the velcro apart. Lay the diaper-changing pad on a flat surface, quilt-side up. Pin one side of the velcro in the center of one short end. Stitch the velcro in place.

    9

Fold the long length of the diaper-changing pad in thirds with the baby-print fabric on the outside.

    10

Mark the spot below the attached velcro piece. Pin the other velcro side in place to match. Unfold the diaper-changing pad and stitch the velcro in place.

    11

Lay the plastic or vinyl sheeting on the quilted side of the diaper-changing pad. Fold the changing pad and fasten the velcro.
