How to Keep Wooden Furniture Legs From Scratching Wood Floors

Beautiful hardwood floors require a great deal of hard work and money to manufacture, and even more to maintain. With this in mind, it's in the best interest of every homeowner to protect their hardwood floors from unnecessary scratches and damage. Wooden furniture legs pose a great threat to the integrity of your hardwood floors. However, there is no need to fret. Read this article to learn great techniques you can use to prevent your furniture from scratching your beautiful hardwood floors. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Start with wooden furniture legs with large, flat bottoms. For these pieces, the best solution is self-adhesive furniture pads. The pads typically have felt on one side and sticky material on the other. (You can purchase the pads at any hardware and furniture store, in a variety of sizes and shapes.) Turn over the furniture, stick one pad to the underside of each leg and then stand the furniture properly in its original location.

    2

Look for furniture legs with particularly small or unusually shaped legs. The best technique is to create your own version of the self-adhesive pad by using a little craft felt and adhesive putty. Use scissors to cut the pieces of felt to the exact size and shape you need.

    3

Affix each customized piece of felt to the underside of each wooden leg, using small balls of the adhesive putty.

    4

Pick out any remaining wooden furniture. Include pieces that don't work well with self-adhesive pads or felt and putty. Turn each piece of furniture on its side, exposing the bottoms of the legs. Apply a generous coating of wax to each leg bottom. Follow the instructions on the wax container.

    5

Allow the wax to dry and replace the furniture. It's a good idea to apply a new layer of wax every few months.
