How to Decorate a Tiny Split Foyer Dining Room

How to Decorate a Tiny Split Foyer Dining Room

Decorating a tiny dining room in a split foyer style home is often challenging. Selecting furniture and decor that makes the most of the small room is key to enlarging the area optically. When visiting this type of home, guests must either go up or down steps to enter the living areas from the main entry. Sometimes the split level results in a small room off the stairway, such as a dining room, before entering larger rooms in the home. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Pick a dining room table that has a leaf you can add when you have guests over for a meal. This allows you to remove the leaf, thus making the table smaller, for everyday use.

    2

Hang mirrors on the walls to open up the tiny area. They reflect light and the objects that are opposite them, thus making the room look more spacious. Many split foyer homes have railings that act as a separation from the stairway and the room you enter when you reach the top of the stairs. Using a mirror in this area adds space visually.

    3

Purchase a dining room table with a fold-down leaf. This allows you to push it up against the wall, making it less awkward to walk from the split foyer through the dining room to other areas of your home.

    4

Invest in a table with bench seating with hidden storage. This provides extra seating for guests without taking up space with bulky dining room chairs. It also gives you extra storage for linens and other tableware.

    5

Paint the walls of the dining and stairway the same color. This allows the eye to flow effortlessly around the space instead of breaking it up with two different colors, thus enlarging the room visually.
