How to Add a Drop Leaf to a Table

Drop leaf tables are perfect for entertaining. Adding a leaf into the table when you are expecting company can easily add room for 2 to 4 more people to enjoy a meal with you. When not entertaining, removing the leaves will leave plenty of space around the table for family dinners. Adding a drop leaf to your table is very easy and can normally be completed with the help of one other person in under 5 minutes. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

    Unlock the table. Look underneath the table and turn each of the locks to the left.

    Pull the halves of the table apart. Make sure you pull the table as far apart as the tracks will allow. This will keep you from having to stop and pull the table open more if the leaf does not immediately fit.

    Grab one end of the leaf while the other person helping you holds onto the other end. Lift the leaf so that it is higher than the table and slowly maneuver yourselves so that you are on opposite sides of the table with the leaf above the opening in the table.

    Slowly place the leaf down into the opening you created in the table. Move to one end of the table and have the other person move to the opposite end. Slowly start pushing the table closed.

    Make any necessary adjustments to the leaf so that it lines up with the edges of the table. Once the table is flush with the leaf go underneath the table and lock the leaf into place by turning each of the locks to the right.

    Wipe the table down with a cleaner and cover with a table cloth to hide the seams of the leaf. Add additional chairs for your guests around the table.
