Bachelor Decorating Ideas

Bachelor Decorating Ideas

Embrace the experience of having your own home all to yourself by decorating your bachelor pad to reflect your style, taste, lifestyle, and personality. Your bachelor pad is like a blank canvas just waiting for you to pick up your paintbrush and illustrate to everyone around what's important to you. Does this Spark an idea?

Living Room

Your living room is often the first--or only--impression your visitors will get. This space should be functional, friendly, comfortable and interesting. Paint the walls in light neutral colors, such as beige or blue-gray, if you don't want to commit to a bold color. Bolder wall colors work well on accent walls, such as behind your entertainment center.

Black or brown leather sofas and chairs are typical furnishings in a bachelor pad. They are sturdy choices, although there are other options. Simple sofas with bright slipcovers can be cleaned easily and provide pops of color in the room. Center your furniture around your TV in a way that still allows for easy conversation, if you're entertaining a group of friends. Include a simple coffee table or leather ottoman to display a coffee table book or small accessories, such as a candle arrangement or glass vase full of black stones and bamboo pieces. Hang artwork and display a few collectibles that help define who you are.

Kitchen and Dining Room

The kitchen and dining room are often overlooked in bachelor pads. Simple decor can create a clean, uncluttered look that functions with style. Keep your kitchen counters uncluttered; for example, only leave out the small appliances you use most, such as an espresso machine, coffee pot or toaster. Also, add easy-on-the-eye accessories: A vase full of lemons, limes or green apples can add a touch of color without overdoing it; a basket of fresh fruit will have the same effect.

A sturdy dining table in dark wood or a pedestal topped with glass in a round or square shape is ideal. Add comfortable chairs with high backs in matching wood to add a decorative element. Set the table with place mats, linen napkins, dinnerware, stemware and a centerpiece, such as a small candle arrangement.

Den or Study

Add a pool table or other entertainment furniture to a den, if you have the room.

If you have a den or study, use it to create the ultimate entertainment room, game room or themed room that shows off your passions. For example, display your game trophies on the walls, if you're an avid hunter. Hang fishing rods and nets on the walls, if you're a fisherman. Decorate the entire room with your favorite team's logo and colors. Include a pool table, or poker table, wet bar and stools if you want to create a really inviting and comfortable hang-out space. A stately desk, bookshelves and comfortable armchairs can create a mature working or relaxing space, as well.

Bedroom

A coordinating bedset in colors you like can create an inviting bedroom that's still masculine.

Choose a bedroom set that you feel comfortable with. Oversized leather headboards or low-profile platform beds are common in bachelor pads because they are simple and masculine. Use a bed set, including matching sheets and comforters, that reflects your favorite colors. A steel-blue set will work with light gray walls and white trim without making the room feel too heavy. Add a light gray or white armchair to lighten things up.

Include lamps, candles, pictures or other small accessories to your nightstands or dresser to show a little personality. Place a valet with a charging station on your dresser to catch your watch, cuff links, loose change, wallet, keys or any other items you use daily.

Bathroom

Keep your bathroom clean and uncluttered.

A clean, uncluttered bathroom will likely impress your guests--especially your mom! Hang towels on a towel rack; whether you choose solid white, blue, black, red, green, brown or striped towels, a neatly kept towel rack adds a nice touch. Keep the counter clear except for a bottle of soap or soap dish. Put your cologne, deodorant, toothbrush, razor and other items in a medicine cabinet, baskets or drawers. Put together an extra little basket or container--with a new toothbrush and other toiletries--for unexpected overnight guests.
