How to Make a Glass Coffee Table for Memorabilia

The manner in which you display your memorabilia is as much an art form as the treasures themselves. Construct a table to show off your prized possessions in just a few hours. Use an old window stored in the attic or pick one up at the flea market to create your table. This furniture becomes a sentimental piece of memorabilia itself, since it is fashioned with your own hands. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Lay the window flat on a piece of 1/2-inch-thick plywood. Trace the edges of the window onto the plywood in pencil.

    2

Cut along the lines with a skill saw, creating the base of your table. Sand the edges.

    3

Cut two pieces of 2-inch by 2-inch wood trim to fit each side of the window. Use a miter saw to cut 45-degree angles on each end of the trim.

    4

Lay the plywood table base on a flat surface. Place the trim on top of the plywood so it is flush with the edges. Fit the corners of the trim together along the 45-degree angles. Screw the trim into the wood using 2 1/2-inch screws.

    5

Flip the table upside down, resting it on the wood trim. Frame a 2-inch by 4-inch skirt around the bottom of the table. Do this by cutting the 2-by-4 wood to fit under the bottom edge of the table, using the same method used to apply the trim to the top of the window.

    6

Fit pre-made square table legs into corners of the frame. Screw the legs into the frame with 3-inch screws. Point the screw gun at a downward angle and screw the inside corners of the legs directly into the bottom of the table.

    7

Turn the table upright, standing it on its legs. Screw two door hinges into one of the longer sides of the window.

    8

Apply pre-glued foam mounting tape along the top edges of the trim. Place the window on the wood trim. Screw the hinges into the side of the trim with 1-inch screws.

    9

Cut a piece of velvet fabric to fit inside the table so the edges just touch the trim. Spray the plywood with adhesive. Press the velvet onto the glue, smoothing the material to remove any wrinkles.

    10

Arrange photos and memorabilia inside the table. Change the display as often as you like according to seasons or new collections you wish to display.
