DIY Fold Up Craft Desk

A folding craft table is useful if you enjoy doing crafts but have a limited amount of space for a table and to store your supplies. A folding craft table can consist of a top and folding leg supports or a combination of a storage unit and folding leafs.

Instructions

    1

Measure, mark and cut one piece of 1/2-inch plywood which is 15 1/2 inches long and 12 1/2 inches wide. This is the main top of your desk.

    2

Measure, mark and cut two pieces of 1/2-inch plywood which are 15 inches long and 12 1/2 inches wide. These are the top sides of your desk.

    3

Measure, mark and cut two pieces of 1/2-inch plywood which are 31 1/2 inches long and 12 1/2 inches wide. These are the sides of your storage unit.

    4

Measure, mark and cut two pieces of 1/2-inch plywood which are 12 1/2 inches square. These are the dividers of your storage unit.

    5

Measure, mark and cut one piece of 1/2-inch plywood which measures 31 inches long and 12 1/2 inches wide. This is the back of your storage unit.

    6

Measure, mark and cut two pieces of 1-by-2-inch lumber which are 31 1/2 inches long. These are the side, vertical supports.

    7

Measure, mark and cut four pieces of 1-by-2-inch lumber which are 7 1/2 inches long. These are the side, horizontal supports.

    8

Lay one storage unit divider on a flat surface. Stand the two sides of your storage unit on the left and right of the divider. The length of the sides should be vertical. Attach the sides to the divider using wood screws located at each corner.

    9

Stand the back of the storage unit on the back of the divider between the sides. The length of the back should be vertical. Attach the back to the sides using wood screws on all four corners.

    10

Measure 10 inches high from the top of the bottom divider on each side. Insert a divider directly above the measurement. Attach the divider to the sides using wood screws on all four corners. Measure 10 inches high from the top of the second divider. Insert the last divider directly above the measurement. Attach the divider to the sides using wood screws on all four corners.

    11

Center the main top on the storage unit. The sides should protrude 1 inch on the left and right of the storage unit. Attach the top to the sides and back of the storage unit using wood screws on all four corners. The screws should be spaced 1 1/4 inch from the right and left edge of the top and 1/4 inch from the back.

    12

Lay two horizontal side supports on a flat surface parallel to each other and 20 inches apart. Position a vertical support on the right of the side supports so the top of the vertical support aligns with the top of the highest horizontal support. The supports should be lying on the widest edge. Secure the vertical support to the horizontal supports using 3-inch wood screws. Repeat this process with the remaining supports.

    13

Measure 1/2 inch from the top of the storage unit. Measure 2 inches from the back of each side. Attach a 2-inch folding hinge below the intersection of the measurements in a vertical position. The hinges should fold toward the front. Secure the hinges to the storage unit sides with 1/2-inch wood screws through the standard mounting holes in the hinge. Repeat this process on the opposite side of the storage unit.

    14

Measure 7 1/2 inches from the bottom of the storage. Measure 2 inches from the back of each side. Attach a 2-inch folding hinge above the intersection of the measurements in a vertical position. The hinges should fold toward the front. Secure the hinges to the storage unit sides with 1/2-inch wood screws through the standard mounting holes in the hinge. Repeat this process on the opposite side of the storage unit.

    15

Measure 3 inches from the front and back of the storage unit on each side. Mark the measurements on the underside of the top. Align the long edge of a 2-inch hinge with the edges of the storage unit. The outside edge of the hinge should be positioned at the measurement points. The hinges should fold down. Secure the hinges to the table top using 1/2-inch wood screws through the standard mounting holes in the hinge.

    16

Secure the hinges mounted in Step 13 and Step 14 to the horizontal side supports using 1/2-inch wood screws threaded through the standard mounting holes.

    17

Secure the hinges mounted in Step 15 to the table sides using 1/2-inch wood screws threaded through the standard mounting holes.

    18

Slide one canvas storage bin in each of the three holes in the storage unit.
