Table Centerpieces for a Child's Craft

Table Centerpieces for a Child's Craft

Table centerpieces make for an inviting craft activity for children of all ages. Keeping little hands busy, these completed crafts can then be displayed on the dining room table for the entire family or party guests to admire. Children will be proud of their job well done, and your home or event will adopt a whimsical look full of childhood fun.

Balloon Vases

Purchase a sheet of wire mesh from your local home store, as well as a few bags of dollar store balloons. Tie the balloons onto the wire weave, and stretch it over the wire, then secure it on the other side. Wrap them in whatever pattern you wish, forming knots and criss-cross designs. Use different colors for a brighter pop in your final centerpiece. Secure the wire sheet around a glass vase with twist ties or a rubber band.

Colored Pencil Foliage

Gather up all of your old crayons or worn-down colored pencils. Stick the blunt end into small Styrofoam balls to form a sort of prickly flower. Stick a brand-new No. 2 pencil into the base of the ball, then plant your flowers in a box filled with nuts, granola, sunflower seeds or a favorite candy.

Shredded Paper Snowballs

Shred a dozen or so pieces of white paper with a paper shredder or by hand. You can also pick up some pre-shredded paper at a craft store. Pour glue over a Styrofoam ball, then roll it in the paper shreds. Your result will be faux snowballs that can then be piled onto a dish or stuck in boxes or flowerpots for a festive winter motif.

Test Tube Spools

Purchase spools of embroidery floss in different hues, and pick up some glass or plastic test tubes at a college bookstore or from a learning store. Place the spools over the testtube, layering the colors or choosing a solid, single shade. Stick thin-stemmed flowers such as daisies or carnations into the tubes and you have colorful, miniature vases.
