How to Craft Photo Tables

A distinctive way to display your favorite photos is to craft a photo table. A photo table can be part of your home's dcor, or it can be useful as a family game or craft table. Transform a plain wooden table top into an image collage with a few simple steps.

Protect the surface with a sheet of glass, or rely on the decoupaged finish to do the job. Decoupaging medium can be glossy or have a matte finish, depending on the type of glue you choose.

Instructions

    1

Sand the top of a wood table with medium grade sandpaper. The sandpaper prepares the wood to better grasp the decoupage adhesive.

    2

Remove all of the sanding debris with a damp cloth, and allow the table to dry.

    3

Trim the photos the way you want to display them on the photo table. Whether you are making a collage or lining the photos in rows, some trimming may be necessary in order to fit the photos on the table.

    4

Dry-fit the photos on the table top. Arranging the photos before you begin gluing takes more time, but it's the only way you can alter the layout, if necessary. When the photos are arranged as you like, remove and stack them in a specific order so you can recreate the arrangement.

    5

Spread a thin layer of decoupage glue onto a small area of the wood table. Press the photos into the glue. Decoupage glue is white upon application, but dries clear. As you press the photos into the glue, the pressure will cause some of the glue to puddle around and on top of the photos. Make sure that you smooth out the excess glue with a paint sponge as you go.

    6

Continue adding glue, pressing the photos and smoothing the glue until the table top is covered. Allow the glue to dry completely.

    7

Apply another coat of decoupage glue over the entire surface of the table. This will add a layer of protection for the photos.
