DIY Scrapbook Table

DIY Scrapbook Table

A scrapbook table allows crafters to expand their workspace area so they have room to work on crafts. Set up a table in a spare bedroom, basement or in a large home office. You can make a table easily as a DIY day project and be up and running for your next scrapbook project in no time. A second small side table can serve as a place to set your sewing table or other necessary tools. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Use ready-to-assemble laminated particleboard cubes to form the base and "legs" for the table. Look for cubes in home improvement stores or in the home furnishings departments of major retail stores. Purchase cubes that are stackable so you can create a comfortable height of at least 3 to 4 feet for working while standing or seated on a stool.

    2

Decide on the spot for the table in the room. Consider positioning it as an island that you can walk around or against a wall so you can add shelves on the wall for storing supplies.

    3

Purchase MDF or particleboard for the tabletop and have a processional custom cut it at a lumber or home improvement store. Cut the boards in sections, if needed, to create a square space at least 6-by-6 or 8-by-8 feet so that you have enough workspace and you can store containers on top for easy access to materials and supplies. Plan for the table to be high enough so that you can slide a stool under the tabletop for sitting.

    4

Station the cubes on the corner edges, based on your desired width for the table. Paint the cubes (unless they came prepainted and laminated) in a color that coordinates with the dcor of your craft room.

    5

Drill the particleboard into the cubes with wood screws to make the table sturdy and keep the tabletop from moving around.

    6

Purchase Plexiglas to cover the particleboard tabletop base so you will have a smooth work surface for making page layouts and cutting with blades and scissors. Cover the top with smooth enamel tiles as an alternative to Plexiglas.

    7

Use the cube space for storing baskets to house your scissors, threads and decorative pieces. Get photo boxes to hold photographs and keep the cubes looking neat and organized.

    8

Add crafting toolboxes with compartments for storing small finials and decorative items on top of the table. Use decorative jars or metal containers for housing scissors, paintbrushes, knives and other tools on top of the table work surface so they will be easy to reach and use. Stack supplies of papers vertically in the cubes, organized by size, shape and color.
