Decorative Craft Ideas for Circular Kitchen Tables

Decorative Craft Ideas for Circular Kitchen Tables

Circular tables of any size are one of the simplest to decorate. For your kitchen table, you can create your own homemade decorations to place atop it. Some crafts take longer than others and require several materials, but the time is worth the effort when you see the reactions of friends and family to the finished product. Get creative and use colors that complement your decor. Does this Spark an idea?

Cloths and Doilies

If you enjoy needlework, you can create one or more table toppers with a set of needles and your choice of yarn. Circular table cloths that are crocheted start in the center and work outward until they either hang a few inches over the sides or drape to the floor. Knitting, embroidery and other needle crafts offer a wide range of tablecloth options. Doilies are smaller versions of tablecloths that work beautifully on circular tables. Sewing your own tablecloths from a variety of fabrics doesn't take much time at all if you prefer seeing immediate results.

Herb Collection

Find a large, round and 2- to 4-inch deep ceramic bowl that works with your kitchen colors. Visit a reputable nursery or herb farm, and choose several small herb plants and small pots with drainage holes. Add soil and pot the herbs, then place them within the bowl. Three to five plants should be enough; they'll grow, especially if the table gets good light. Add small pebbles or polished stones to the bowl, and place it in the center of your table. The result is a living centerpiece that will last for months. Water weekly and use the herbs for cooking.

Basket Centerpiece

You can either weave your own circular basket or start with one already made. Fill the basket with fruit, nuts, candies, polished gemstones or a small collection of your family's historic knickknacks. You can glue in artificial items for a lasting basket. Another basket idea is to take several small ones and glue them inside the larger one, and fill them all with a variety of items. If the basket you make yourself turns out as an art object you want to show off, simply set it on top of your homemade or a purchased star-point or round doily as a standalone presentation.

Other Centerpiece Crafts

Visit a thrift shop, a vintage shop or an antique store and look for three pretty bottles. They can be the same or different colors, shapes and heights. Work with beads and fiber to create decorative details to hang from the bottlenecks. Fill the bottles with colored or clear water, and group them together on a round platter. Surround it with greenery or fresh flowers you can change from time to time. Other crafts you can try are making a large, round 3-wick candle to light on special occasions, or throwing a round pottery vase to place fresh flowers in.
