How to Make a Quilted Ironing Pad Caddy

How to Make a Quilted Ironing Pad Caddy

A quilted ironing pad caddy helps keep ironing and garment care supplies in an easy-to-reach location. The caddy is a practical addition to the laundry room to make fast work of household mending. The ironing pad caddy will be useful at holding scissors, iron-cleaning tissues, thread, measuring tapes and lint brushes. A custom ironing pad caddy can be quilted to coordinate wtih the colors and style of your other laundry supplies.

Instructions

    1

Cut the printed fabric, batting and coordinating fabric to the same size: 13 inches by 33 inches.

    2

Lay the piece of coordinating fabric on the table with the right side down. Lay the piece of batting on top of the coordinating fabric. Lay the piece of printed fabric on top of the batting with the right side up. Secure the layers together with pins.

    3

Cut the another piece of printed fabric, batting and coordinating fabric all the same size: 38 inches by 13 inches.

    4

Lay the piece of coordinating fabric on the table with the right side down. Lay the piece of batting on top of the coordinating fabric. Lay the piece of printed fabric on top of the batting with the right side up. Secure the layers together with pins.

    5

Take both fabric sandwiches to the sewing machine and quilt through the layers.

    6

Trim the 13-by-33-inch sandwich to measure 11-by-31 inches. This is the main piece. Cut the 38-by-13-inch sandwich into three pieces that measure 10-by-11 inches, 12-by-11 inches and 14-by-11 inches. These are the pockets.

    7

Machine-sew double-fold bias tape around all raw edges of the pockets and main piece.

    8

Pin the 8-by-11-inch pocket to the printed side of the main piece about one-half inch from the top edge. Pin the 10-by-11-inch pocket just under the top pocket. Pin the 12-by-11-inch pocket just under the middle pocket.

    9

Stitch around the sides and bottom edges of each pocket. Back-stitch at the top of the sides to prevent them from coming loose.

    10

Divide the top pocket in half by machine stitching down the middle. This will help keep small items organized.

    11

Secure the top of the quilted ironing caddy to the edge ironing board pad with three safety pins.
