Decorating Ideas for a Bachelor's Dining Room Table

Decorating Ideas for a Bachelor's Dining Room Table

Being a bachelor does not have to mean your home has to be boring. Giving your dining room table a masculine decorative touch will make your home feel more appealing to you and more welcoming to friends and dates you entertain. An interesting decorative object on the dining room table can also be a great conversation starter as decorations often reflect the owner's personality and interests. Does this Spark an idea?

Decoupage

Give an old bachelor pad dining room table new life with a decoupage treatment. Gather images that interest you, such as sports magazines, newspaper clippings, maps, or old movie or music posters. Sand the finish off of the table to be sure that your images stick well. Apply a decoupage medium, such as Modge Podge, to the back of your first image and rub it on evenly with your fingers. Place the image down on the table and rub it to adhere it to the surface. Continue to paste images down until the dining room table is completely covered. Let the medium dry for several hours before applying a durable coating, such as varnish or two-part epoxy, to preserve the table.

Groups of Three

If you want your bachelor pad to have a tasteful, yet masculine look, use a small "group of three" on the dining room table. Place a table lamp and two small decorative items into the middle of the table. You could use a small plant, a photograph, a beer stein or any other small, decorative item. If you practice a crafty hobby, such as woodcarving, this is a great place to display your work. Similarly, if you hunt deer, moose or elk, turn the antlers into a lamp to give your table a distinctively male touch.

Interactive LED Table

If you have high-tech interests, buy or make an interactive LED (light-emitting diode) table. Interactive LED panels can be installed on any table, and can give your room a futuristic feel. When you touch the panels, they send out shimmering ripples of LED light that flash in complex patterns. Complement the table with minimal, low-light fixtures, such as recessed uplighting near the walls, and a subdued, modern chandelier above the table. Place a few mirrors around the room to catch and reflect the light, playing up the dazzling table display.
