DIY Sewing Table Plan

DIY Sewing Table Plan

A busy crafter or seamstress knows how important it is to have a table or area dedicated to sewing. There are many important things to think about when planning a table before even starting to make it. It is vital that you think of everything you need beforehand so that when it is finished you don't regret not adding an important feature. Put your plan on paper, adding features that you feel are important until it looks perfect.

Instructions

    1

Decide where you will put your table. This will influence how large your table can be. You don't want to build a table six feet long only to find out you have five feet, 10 inches of space.

    2

Write down the things that are important for your sewing table. The one thing required is room for the sewing machine. You might also want a cutting space, an ironing station or room to store fabric and sewing notions.

    3

Sketch out the space that you have to devote to your sewing table.

    4

Sketch your table, being sure to include everything you want or need. A U-shaped table is perfect for sewing, so that you can reach everything from a rolling chair in the middle of the U, without getting out of your chair. Some parts, such as the cutting station or ironing board, can be folded down, or a portable ironing board can be used to save space.

    5

Utilize vertical space. Shelves and pegboards can hold a lot of items on the walls above your head.

    6

Figure the height you will need for the table. This can be different for every crafter, so be sure to figure out what a comfortable working height would be.

    7

Decide if lighting needs to be added or changed for your sewing table. Bright lights are usually needed, especially if the room is dark or you often work at night.

    8

Plan the time frame it will take to get your table made or purchased.
