How to Make a Wood End Table

Unusual furniture in the home makes for interesting conversation pieces and also reflects an eclectic or quirky personality. Home dcor that reflects personal style is becoming more popular as people would rather show their individuality than traditional furniture pieces when possible. Making different wooden end tables are an ideal way to go outside the box for something new and unique. The wooden spools that hold wire or cables are a popular item for teenagers' rooms or the living room. The spools can be found at any local hobby store or electrical contractor's shop.     Hammer in all protruding nails on the spool. Remove any that are about to fall out and not needed. Remove any staples.

    Clean all surfaces from dirt and debris with a wire brush or cloth. A clean surface is needed before the next step.

    Polyurethane Varnish

    Apply the polyurethane varnish per package directions. Apply a minimum of three coats and allow to dry between coats per package instructions.

    Measure the round bottom of the spool and cut that same measurement out of the felt. Spread wood glue all over the bottom surface of the spool and press the measured piece of felt to the bottom. Allow to dry completely, approximately 2 hours.

    Turn the table over and place in the living room or next to the bed.
