How to Make Corner Protectors for Tables

How to Make Corner Protectors for Tables

Corner protectors serve two purposes. They protect small children -- and perhaps some of us not-so-small clumsy adults -- from injury. They also protect the corners from damage done to them in an active household. According to Rebecca Wallgren, a professional seamstress in Rockford, Illinois, corner protectors can be sewn easily at home with very little skill using inexpensive terry washcloths. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Fold a washcloth in half diagonally, forming a triangle. Repeat with a second washcloth. Stack the two diagonally-folded washcloths and pin them together.

    2
Do not sew the side of the triangle made up by the folded edges.

Sew together the four layers of terry on the two short sides of the triangle, forming two seams that meet at a right angle.

    3

Turn the resulting pocket inside out. Trim the seam if necessary, but consider that the seam itself provides additional cushioning, says Wallgren.

    4
Fasten tape on the top and bottom of the table surface where the protector will be situated.

Use double-faced tape to secure the terry protector on the table corner.
