Craft Ideas on How to Make Lily Pads

Craft Ideas on How to Make Lily Pads

Whether you're a teacher who is teaching students about ponds, or you're a parent who is looking for a fun, educational activity for your children to participate in, consider presenting kids with lily pad craft activities. Not only will kids enjoy using the art materials needed to make these crafts, but the activity will also provide them with an opportunity to develop their fine motor skills and serve as a hands-on learning tool. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Distribute a paper plate and green and pink tissue paper to each child. Instruct them to tear the tissue paper into small pieces and roll each piece into a ball. Have them place a drop of craft glue on each piece of tissue paper and place the pieces on the top of the paper plate until the entire paper plate is covered. Once the paper plate is covered with green tissue paper, have children place glue on each piece of pink tissue paper and place these pieces in a small circle on the corner of the paper plate, creating a lily flower.

    2

Hand out green construction paper and a pair of scissors to each child. Instruct them to cut a large circle out of the construction paper. If you are working with young children, it may be easier to make a template of a circle out of poster board, which they can use to trace on the construction paper and then cut out. Have them use pink paint to paint a flower on the green circles, creating a lily pad with a flower on top of it. Have each child write his name on the lily pads with a marker. Laminate the lily pads and use them as seat markers or place mats.

    3

Provide each child with a paper plate and blue paint. Have them paint the paper plates blue, creating a pond. While the paint is drying, have children roll green play dough into a large ball and press it flat, forming a lily pad. Roll the pink play dough into a small ball and glue it on top of the lily pad as a flower. When the paint has dried, glue the play dough lily pad onto the paper plate.
