How to Repair Table Leaf Supports

A table leaf is the section of the table that lifts up to provide a larger table. The mechanism that provides support for the leaf can sometimes bend or wear out. The leaf support can bend over time due to the amount of weight. Repeated use can also cause the mechanism to wear out or break, causing the leaf to be unusable. When this happens it needs to be replaced or repaired. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Inspect the drop-leaf support for damage. Determine if the support only needs a screw replaced, or if the support is bent, or needs to be replaced. Determine what type of tools you will need to remove the support. Most commonly the screws are installed with a Phillips screwdriver. Some types will require an Allen wrench.

    2

Remove the drop-leaf support by removing the screws that hold it in place.

    3

Repair any bends in the support. Be careful not to overbend or break the support. Wear gloves when trying to bend the support straight. Use the corner of a table to mark where you need to bend the support.

    4

Replace the support using the same holes you removed the screws from. In some cases where a new table-leaf support can not be found exactly the same, new holes will have to be drilled.
