How to Extend a Table & Chairs

Buying a table and chairs that you can extend allows you to make the most out of a smaller space. The table fits nicely in the room of your choice, but expands to seat more people for when you entertain. Two different types of tables can be extended and both are fairly easy to operate. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Drop-Leaf Tables

    1

Pull the table away from the wall. Drop-leaf tables are designed to be pushed against the wall on one side when additional space isn't needed. Simply pull the table out so that you can easily walk around the entire table.

    2

Pull up the sides. On a drop-leaf table the sides fold down creating a two-seater table. Pull up one side at a time, securing the leaf in place before you move to the second side. To secure the leaf, look under the table, pull the wooden lever out so the leaf rests on it and lock it in place.

    3

Position the table and place the chairs around it. When the table is fully extended, it sits four people rather than two. Make sure you position it in the room so that your guests aren't uncomfortable and place one chair on each side.

Wooden Extending Tables

    4

Pull the table apart. You need another person to stand at the opposite end of the table so you can both pull the ends at the same time. This creates an open space in the middle of the table.

    5

Add wood sections to the middle of the table. Wood extending tables typically allow for either one or two additional sections to be added. Determine the number of guests you will have and then add either one or both of the table sections.

    6

Push the ends of the table back together. Make sure the pegs on the wood sections are lined up with the holes on the table ends. Then simply push the ends toward the middle of the table to secure the table ends to the wood sections. Double check to make sure they are secure and arrange your chairs around the table accordingly.
