How to Attach a Table to a Wall

How to Attach a Table to a Wall

Tables can be attached to walls for various reasons, such as providing stability to a dinner table. A table may also be connected to a wall for the purpose of being collapsible to save space in a small room. While your kitchen table can be attached to the wall, it is more common for drop-down tables to be attached to a wall. To connect either type of table, you will need only common tools and hardware.

Instructions

    1

Place the stud finder on the wall where you want to attach the table. Slowly drag it horizontally across the wall.

    2

Make a mark with the pencil where the stud finder beeps or lights up. This indicates there is a stud in the wall at that location. You need a stud to provide support for the weight of the table.

    3

Line the table up to the wall and let it rest on the floor. Place the wall bracket underneath the table to determine where it needs to be installed on the wall. Line up the bracket with the wall studs. If you are working with a drop-down table, place the table top against the wall to determine its height. Line the drop-shelf bracket up against the wall and mark the location, so you get the proper height and hit the wall studs.

    4

Place the wall bracket or drop-shelf bracket against the wall and use the pencil to make marks where the drill holes will be made. Remove the brackets. Use the drill to drill the holes in the wall.

    5

Place the bracket on the wall once more and secure it with 3-inch screws. The length of the screws is important, as they need to reach the studs in the wall for support.

    6

Line the table against the wall or place the drop-down table on the drop-shelf bracket, so the bracket is underneath the tabletop surface. Attach the bracket to the table using 1/2-inch screws; make sure the screws do not protrude through the table surface.

    7

Step away from the table once it is attached to the bracket. If you are installing a drop-down table, slide the drop-shelf bracket to the side to let the table down.
