Buying cushions for your dining room chairs can be expensive and tiring. If you just can't seem to find the fabric you want, or you don't want to spend the money, do it yourself. Follow these steps to make your own chair cushions.
Instructions
- 1
Lay the fabric wrong side up on the floor or on a large table. Use a fabric marker and straight edge to draw eight 17 inch squares and thirty-two 17 by 2 inch strips.
2Cut out pieces using scissors or fabric cutter.
3Piece and pin two of the squares right sides together. Sew three sides, 1/2-inch from the edge of the fabric.
4Fold each long fabric strip lengthwise in thirds and sew down the middle to make ties for the cushions. Sew four strips to the open side of the square, using your own chairs as a guide. For example, sew the first strip at 3 inches, the second at 5 inches, the third at 11inches and the fourth at 13 inches.
5Turn the square right sides out and slide the foam pad into it. Use extra pillow stuffing to fluff the cushion to your desired thickness.
6Turn the remaining fabric edges in to hide the unfinished portion and pin sides together, closing the cushion.
7Sew the back of the cushion with a sewing machine and use a hand needle and thread for anything you cannot do with the machine.
8Repeat with the rest of the fabric pieces, tie cushions to your chairs and you are done!
