You can turn any surface cabinet top, small table or ironing board into a functional ironing and sewing tabletop. Placed next to your sewing machine, it will save you steps and time when pressing seams while sewing. Youll find the padded surface will also do double duty for laying out testing fabric combinations and small sewing projects. Ironing and sewing tabletops are quick and easy to put together by combining layers of fabric and heat-resistant batting.
Instructions
- 1
Measure your plywood board and add six inches to the width and six inches to the length of the board. Use these dimensions to cut one piece each of the cotton fabric, the heat-resistant and the thin layer batting, and ironing board fabric.
2Use your basting spray or spray adhesive to layer the fabrics and battings into a sandwich. Begin by placing the cotton fabric face down on a horizontal surface. Baste the heat-resistant batting to the back of the cotton. Use the thin batting for the third layer, and finish with the ironing cloth fabric.
3Center the plywood board over the fabric. There should be about 2 1/2 inches of excess fabric on each side of the board. Fold the excess fabric tightly over the board and staple in place in the middle of each side of the board.
4Turn the fabric at each corner of the board and staple in place and then continue to staple the fabric to the board every two to three inches along all four sides of the board.
