How to Protect Hardwood Floors From Sliding Chairs

How to Protect Hardwood Floors From Sliding Chairs

Hardwood floors are very durable, but they can still be damaged if they are not properly cared for. Sliding chairs back and forth across a hardwood floor can scratch the surface. You can easily protect this investment in your home by taking a few minutes of time and using a few inexpensive products you can find at a local home supply store. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Install felt pads on the bottoms of the chair legs, advises How-To Hardwood Floors. These soft pads protect hardwood floors from damage. They come in many different shapes and sizes. Purchase felt pads with adhesive on one side and simply peel off the protective paper and stick them onto the bottoms of the chair legs. You can also purchase pads that tack onto the legs.

    2

Keep the floor area around the sliding chairs free from dirt by using a dust mop often. Move the chairs and sweep the hardwood floors on a regular basis. This will help keep grit from accumulating on the chair leg pads and scratching the floor. Wipe off the felt pads to remove any dirt before you put them back in their locations.

    3

Place an area rug underneath the space where chairs slide across the hardwood floor if you don't want to use felt pads. Put a mesh-grid padding under the area rug, advises Wood Floors Online. You can purchase this padding at carpet stores and home supply stores.
